Top 10 Computer keyboard shortcuts everyone must know

Use of keyboard shortcuts can significantly enhance your efficiency, reduce boring sprain, and help keep you alert. Let’s take an example, to copy text; you can select text by using Ctrl+A shortcut key and then press the Ctrl+C. The shortcut is faster than using mouse for same.

Below are the Top 10 computer keyboard shortcuts we suggest all to learn and use.

 

Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert and Ctrl+X

Cmd+C and Ctrl+Insert both will copy a particular highlighted text or a selected item. If you need to cut an item at the place of copying it, just press Ctrl+X. This function removes the text or an item and temporary saved within clipboard.

Ctrl key for command (cmd) key can be use in Apple computers. For example, press Cmd+C to copy highlighted text.

 

Shift+Insert or Ctrl+V

Shift+Insert and Ctrl+V both will paste the text or an object that’s saved in the clipboard.

Use Cmd+V on Apple computers.

Here is an example above press either Ctrl+C to copy or Ctrl+X to Cut the text. Once you are done the press Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert to paste the text.

 

Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y

Using Ctrl+Z will undo any changes. For example, if you cut text or made some changes and want to return previous stage then pressing this key combination will undo the cut or changes. This shortcut can be use more than one time.

Pressing Ctrl+Y would redo, just opposite to undo.

Cmd+Z and Cmd+Y to undo and redo respectively in Apple computers.

 

Ctrl+F

Ctrl+F shortcut opens the find field in documents or any program, which allows user to search their desired text currently displayed in any program that supports it. For example, Ctrl+F can be used in your MSword file to find text on document. Press Ctrl+F to open the find in your document and search whatever you want to search within document.

Use Cmd+F to find on Apple computers.

 

Page Up, Spacebar, and Page Down

Pressing either the page up or page down key will shift to the next or earlier page. While browsing the Internet, pressing the spacebar can moves the scrollbar down a page. Similarly, Shift+spacebar moves the scrollbar up one page

 

Alt+Tab or Ctrl+Tab

Pressing Alt+Tab helps user to switch between open programs moving forward. For example, if a browser window open and some other programs running in the background then press and hold Alt and then press the tab key to move from side to side each open program.

Use the Command (Cmd) key for apple computers at the place of alt key. For Example, Cmd+Tab to switch between open programs.

Press Ctrl+Tab to switch between tabs within a particular program. For example, if you have multiple tabs open in MSWord or MSExcel or Browser, press Ctrl+Tab to switch between them.

Extra Tip: Adding the Shift Key with Alt+Tab or Ctrl+Tab moves backward.

 

Ctrl+S

While working on any documents or other files in around every program, using Ctrl+S shortcut key saves that file. Use this shortcut key regularly if you’re working on something critical or important and an error happens or your system down or any other issues occurs then this shortcut key saves your data.

Use Cmd+S to save a file on Apple Computers.

 

Ctrl+Home or Ctrl+End

Ctrl+Home will shift the cursor to the start of the document, and Ctrl+End will shift the cursor to the end of a document. These shortcuts work with almost all documents, as well as browsers web pages.

On the other hand use Cmd and the up arrow to get to the start of a document or Cmd and the down arrow to get to the end of a document.

 

Ctrl+P

Ctrl+P shortcut key is used to open print preview of the current page or document. For example, press Ctrl+P to view a print preview of this page.

Similarly use Cmd+P to open the print preview on Apple Computers.

 

 

Ctrl+Backspace and Ctrl+Left or Right arrow

Pressing Ctrl+Backspace will remove a full word at a time instead of a single character.

Holding Ctrl key while pressing the left or right arrow will shift the cursor one word to other at a time instead of one character at a time. If you would like to highlight one word at a time, hold Ctrl+Shift, then press the left or right arrow key.

Above shortcuts are works on windows PC users only and do not work on Apple computers.

Ctrl+U  – Underline any sentence of document.

CTRL+B – To bold any word or sentence or paragraph of document.
